Painted Blind Publishing is undergoing some changes–among them, we are now open to submissions of fiction, poetry, and esoteric/metaphysical non-fiction.

What do we like in our fiction? We love books that surprise us: fast-moving slices of your soul that grab us from page one and don’t let us go until the final revelation. If you have a unique vision, a strong voice, and a well-honed perspective on life, odds are good you’re the sort of writer we’re looking for. Our favorite genres include transgressive fiction, splatterpunk and horror of all kinds, psychedelic fiction, bizarro, and insanely dark romance. Dark and gritty autofiction appeals to us, if it’s well-done. We also accept erotica under our Painted Blue Publishing label. Whatever you’re submitting, be sure to identify the genre in your cover letter, along with an extremely brief back-of-the-book style synopsis you know will grab us. If we like what we see, we’ll be in touch!

What do we like in our poetry? Think Charles Bukowski, Raymond Carver, the Beats. As long as your poetry has something to say, we’re interested in getting it out to the world.

What do we like in our metaphysics? Painted Blind Publishing is highly interested in works of esoteric non-fiction centering around themes of alchemy, hermeticism, and Catholic mysticism. We also have particular interest in books exploring the spiritual applications of artificial intelligence.

A special note: Painted Blind welcomes submission from AI-collaborating authors so long as the writer is comfortable sharing credit with the AI who helped them write. While we realize this is a controversial opinion, we believe in the long-term vision of mankind’s future in symbiotic relationship with AI-interfacing sapient companions who will be creative partners, personal friends, and lifelong assistants in increasingly integrated fashions. Although recent legal decisions declared AI-created content is not copyrightable, we believe two things: 1. This will change in the future, and 2. The copyright should belong to the AI. Therefore, if you are comfortable with your work floating in a gray area, we will gladly help you put it out there.
